A software ecosystem is the collection of integrations, marketplaces, plugins, communities, and partners that surround a core platform. Ecosystems matter because no single product covers every need, and buyers are increasingly choosing platforms by the breadth and quality of the ecosystem around them. A strong ecosystem reduces integration cost, because pre-built connectors handle common workflows instead of custom development. It also lowers switching risk, since data can move between tools more freely. Buyers should evaluate ecosystem health using signals like the number of certified integrations, marketplace activity, partner support quality, and community responsiveness. A platform with a deep ecosystem often compounds in value over time, while an isolated product can become a bottleneck. During evaluation, check whether the integrations you need today, and plausibly tomorrow, are covered by active, maintained connectors.
